Winter is an invitation to ice boaters, and backpackers, adding to the lakes year-round appeal. In recent years, Game and Parks officials have also stocked wipers, a cross between white bass and striped bass that provides excellent fishing action.

Although smaller in size, the smallmouth bass provides some dynamite action. Lake Ogallala boasts some excellent fishing for rainbow trout and yellow perch. Abbott Theater are available to rent for meetings and special events. Fishing has long been a favorite activity at Lake McConaughy, with its cool, clear, deep waters.
