This seems to have affected the suction a little, and it makes more noise now. I hope it lasts for the year. Super easy to use. But even with letting the pump run and clear the tubing, it has left black mold in the tubes. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because you cannot pump just one boob.
I was able to empty my full supply in minute sessions. Otherwise, it works fine. This pump has been life-changing for me! My supply has gone from pumping oz in the morning to oz consistently! The flanges are so comfortable, and with so many different settings, it makes pumping almost feel like a massage in comparison to the awful Ameda pump I had before. I use this pump as my go-to pump now, and it was working great, but it stopped working.
Powerful, quiet, lightweight. Super easy to use — I put it together and figured out how to use it in two minutes on about two hours of sleep. Works well with a hands-free pumping bra or nursing bra converted to hands-free pumping bra — stays put, including during breast massage. Highly recommend it! I bought this one because it is the same brand and I could use all the parts I came home from the hospital with.
Unfortunately, the suction on this is so terrible I cannot even get an ounce pumped combined after 40 minutes! However, I was easily getting better between 2.
This one is more compact, quieter, and easy to use. The vibration also helps get the milk out! Do your research and find a different type of pump.
Your nipples will thank you later, along with your milk supply. However, both will suffice, but your choice boils down to how frequently you plan to use this machine. The Ameda pump weighs less than the Medela pump, making it easy to carry around. Imagine struggling with an extra heavy bag just for occasional pumping.
For this criterion, the Ameda pump wins as it is not heavy or bulky. Since the Medela has Tubes, it takes more time to clean it. An example of an Ameda breast pump is the Ameda purely yours. A lot of diseases are as a result of poor hygiene. Bacteria and other disease pathogen grow when the environment allows them. If you expose or cannot wash your breast pump adequately, it opens the expressed milk to molds which can harm your baby.
The Ameda provides the Airlock protection feature; it keeps your pump protected from viruses and bacteria during use. It is why Paediatricians advise washing and sanitize anything that a baby is likely to put in his or her mouth. Flanges size depends on the nipple size of the mother. The Ameda breast pump offer different flanges sizes unlike the one size fit all feature that most brands give.
Mothers can see through that mistake manufacturers make as they know one item can not truly accommodate all. For moms that do not know the flange that would fit, they can try the different flange sizes in their Ameda pump kit. A few brands may even have other sizes, but you have to buy them as extra accessories. It causes the breast pump kit not to be budget-friendly.
The Ameda selling point is it gives its buyers different sizes of flanges at no extra price. It is logical to point out that the more intense the suction is, the faster the pumping.
I may end up getting a medela if it keeps up. I also notice the pump sound doesn't sound consistent to me. I love the Medela. The Ameda purely yours is so difficult I won't use it unless there is an emergency of some sort. The only benefit is you can change suction and speed settings separately.
Otherwise, everything else is ten times more difficult than the Medela. I read several books on BF, but this one was the best! I have been using my ameda for over a year and it works just fine. Haven't used anything else other than my avent manual pump which I also like to compare it with though! I ordered the ameda through my insurance and ended up having to buy a medela.
Same as pp, only use the ameda if I have to like when I accidentally leave my medela at work. Thanks so much! I've heard lots of good things about the Medela and just started reading comparisons today and got confused.
I think I'll go with the Medela. I will be sure to get that book as well! We strive to provide you with a high quality community experience. This educational content is not medical or diagnostic advice. And which ultimately makes it more hygienic, and even suitable to be used by different people. The Medela breast pump, however, is not a closed system pump.
That means that the tubes go straight into the bottles and that there is a chance that some milk is going to back up into the tubing eventually.
And if you want them to dry out quickly, just attach them to the pump and turn it on, without connecting the tubes to the bottle. This is a trick that you should also use in case you get humidity in the Medela tubes during pumping.
And that is as gross as it sounds. But, leaving the breast pump on without connecting the tubes to the bottle will dry out the condensation in just a few minutes. Better be safe than sorry! In case your Pump In Style advanced gets moldy, you need to throw out the tubes and replace them with new ones. At least you know you can get those everywhere; even at Walmart! The Medela Pump In Style is a two-phase expression electric breast pump. Quite a mouthful huh! You need to do this manually — generally by reducing the speed of the pump and increasing the suction rate.
The lack of a let-down button on the Ameda breast pump is both a downside and an upside. If you are just starting to pump, then you might not find the Ameda as efficient as the Medela breast pump. But if you are used to pumping and have been doing it for a while, and you also know exactly what speed and suction rates work best for you, then the Finesse pump is going to be the better choice for you. Because you will have absolute control over those settings, and you can use that to maximize your breast milk output.
On the other hand, with the Medela breast pump, you can get only one dial, which kind of increases both the suction and the speed at the same time.
When judging the portability of the pump, there are two main things to compare. Can you use it without an AC adapter? How easy it is to just throw it in your purse and get on with your day? The Ameda pump is pretty lightweight and small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. It has a sort of rectangular shape, so it is slightly long but pretty slim.
