Can i carry on flies




















It worked out well, except one check in got lost in Chicago:ranting3: I stayed in the area and it was there at 7;00 am and yes it was the bag with my reels. Messages 71 Reaction score 2. Every year for the past umteen years I fly AA to the Caribbean. I take my fly rod, reel and a goodly number of flies on board with me. The only time it was an issue was when the TSA agent thought they may be actual bugs.

I always check my wader bag, which has my fly boxes and tools in it, and I carry on the rods and reels. Fly tying material is more interesting.

Last year I was going to Baltimore almost weekly, so I would pack my vice and enough material to tie different flies. I rarely ever checked a bag.

The pedestal base and my vice caused problems the first couple of times, so after that I ran it through the x-ray separately. By the end of the year, the Baltimore TSA folks started recognizing me, since I took the same flight back every week.
