Can i carry on flies

It worked out well, except one check in got lost in Chicago:ranting3: I stayed in the area and it was there at 7;00 am and yes it was the bag with my reels. It seems to be up to the guy digging through your stuff. Rick, I think you nailed it: right or wrong, it IS all about the "guy digging through your stuff"!

Messages 71 Reaction score 2. Every year for the past umteen years I fly AA to the Caribbean. I take my fly rod, reel and a goodly number of flies on board with me. The only time it was an issue was when the TSA agent thought they may be actual bugs.

Just don't make a big deal and let it all get scanned. If the ask, answer with the facts. Compared to the knitting needles the lady sitting behind me had, those hooks were nothing. I always check my wader bag, which has my fly boxes and tools in it, and I carry on the rods and reels. Fly tying material is more interesting.

Last year I was going to Baltimore almost weekly, so I would pack my vice and enough material to tie different flies. I rarely ever checked a bag.

The pedestal base and my vice caused problems the first couple of times, so after that I ran it through the x-ray separately. By the end of the year, the Baltimore TSA folks started recognizing me, since I took the same flight back every week.

Never had a problem with the hooks or little scissors. But I did keep a printout of the TSA rules in my bag just in case You must log in or register to reply here.
